RingSnip Make a ringtone

Privacy policy

Last updated: [EFFECTIVE DATE]

The short version

  • No accounts. We never ask for your name, phone number or contacts.
  • The link you paste or the file you upload is used only to make your ringtone, and both are deleted automatically within 1 hour.
  • We show ads from Google. In the EU, UK and Switzerland, ads are only personalised if you agree.
  • We don't sell your personal data.

1. Who we are

RingSnip is operated by Mouath Awartani ("RingSnip", "we", "us"), who runs the website ringsnip.com and is responsible for your personal data under this policy. You can reach us at [email protected] or by post at [MAILING ADDRESS].

2. What we collect and why

Links and files you give us

When you paste a link, our server fetches only the audio from that address. When you upload a file, it is sent to our server. We use the audio solely to create the ringtone you asked for, then delete the source audio and the finished ringtone automatically within 1 hour. We don't listen to, review, share or reuse your files.

Technical data

Like most websites, our servers record your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request and the time of each request. We use this to keep RingSnip running, stop abuse (for example, limiting how many ringtones one address can make per hour) and fix problems.

Usage statistics

We count events such as "ringtone made" or "guide opened" to learn what works. Where the law requires it, we only do this after you consent.

Cookies and advertising

RingSnip is free because of ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them and measure how they perform. If you are in the EU, the UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time from Privacy choices at the bottom of every page. If you decline, you may still see ads, but they won't be personalised. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Error reports

If something breaks, an error report with technical details (never your files) is sent to our error-tracking service so we can fix it.

When you email us

We keep your message and email address to reply and to keep a record of the conversation.

3. Our legal bases

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Providing the service you ask for : processing your link or file to make your ringtone.
  • Legitimate interests : security, preventing abuse, fixing errors and keeping basic server logs.
  • Consent : personalised advertising, and analytics or cookies that need consent. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligations : responding to valid legal requests and copyright notices.

4. Who we share data with

We share data only with service providers who help us run RingSnip, under contracts that limit how they can use it:

Provider What they do
Cloudflare Website delivery, security and bot protection
[SERVER PROVIDER] The servers that make your ringtone
Google (AdSense) Advertising, and the consent message
PostHog (EU hosting) Usage statistics
Sentry Error reports
Our email provider Receiving and answering your emails

We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of RingSnip, our users or others. We don't sell your personal data.

5. How long we keep it

Data Kept for
Your source audio and finished ringtone Deleted automatically within 1 hour
Server and security logs (including IP addresses) Up to 30 days
Usage statistics Up to 12 months
Emails you send us As long as needed to handle your request, then up to 2 years
Your consent choice Stored on your device until you change it or clear your cookies

6. International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive a copy of it. You can withdraw consent at any time from Privacy choices. To make a request, email [email protected]. Because we have no accounts, we may ask for details (such as the approximate time you used RingSnip) to find your data.

If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in California, you can opt out of personalised advertising through Privacy choices or your browser's Global Privacy Control signal, which we honour.

8. Children

RingSnip isn't directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU and UK), and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), restrict server access, and delete files automatically. No service is perfectly secure, but we keep the data we hold to a minimum so there is little to expose.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll also show a notice on the site.
