How to add a ringtone to your iPhone from a Mac or PC
Made your ringtone on a computer? Copy it straight onto your iPhone with a cable. It lands in Settings › Sounds & Haptics › Ringtone.
What you need
- Your iPhone and its cable
- A Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or a Windows PC with the Apple Devices app (or iTunes)
- The .m4r from RingSnip in your Downloads folder. Make one with RingSnip
1Connect your iPhone
Plug it in and unlock it. Tap Trust if your iPhone asks.
2Open your iPhone on the computer
On a Mac, open Finder and click your iPhone under Locations. On Windows, open the Apple Devices app (or iTunes) and select your iPhone.
3Drag the ringtone onto your iPhone
Drag the .m4r from your Downloads folder onto your iPhone’s window. It copies across in a moment.
4Set it on your iPhone
Go to Settings › Sounds & Haptics › Ringtone. Your ringtone is at the top of the list.
If it doesn’t show up
- The file must end in .m4r and be 30 seconds or less. Files from RingSnip always are.
- In Finder, drop the file on the General tab of your iPhone’s window.
- On your iPhone already? The iOS 26 guide needs no computer.
